Battleship
Potemkin is a Russian black and white silent film
also known as ‘Battleship
Potyomkin’ directed by Sergei
Eisenstein in 1925. In 1958, at
Brussels World’s Fair, Battleship Potemkin was named the greatest
film of all time.
Editing used in this film
makes it look like it has been filmed in one big part, but the cutaways to the
text on the screen helps the audience understand what is going on. Cuts between
two scenes, for example; the scene we see in the ship when the captain is
looking down on the crew and the shot from the deck up to the captain is really
simple we see an eye line match of what that character is seeing and tells the
audience what the director wants them to see. The music throughout the whole
film was in perfect sync with what is happening in the scene.
